The nose bursts with ripe, brambly red and black fruits, fresh-cut herbs and flowers, a thrum of saddle leather, underbrush, earth and minerality in this genial, broad-shouldered ‘11 Flaccianello. Perfectly balanced and remarkably approachable, the ‘11 Flaccianello is absolutely stunning; it stands akimbo across opulence and structure, building to a long, lingering and caressing finish. Production was down about 14.5% in Toscana in 2009, and the low production yields combined with a warm, dry growing season helped to create a concentrated, intense Flaccianello bottling. Crafted from organically grown Sangiovese, this wine ferments with only natural yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel for about three weeks before aging in oak barrels for at least eighteen months. This ’11 Flaccianello is a stellar bottling, enjoyable now or years down the road.
