Lucien Le Moine has been one of the most lauded and discussed négociant producers in Burgundy in the last decade or so, and for good reason. Translated as "Light of the Monk", the label was started by Mounir Saouma and his wife, Rotem, in 1999. Working from exclusively grands and premiers crus vineyards, their line-up is deep, broad, and enviable in every sense. With up to 30 or more wines in a given vintage, Maison Lucien Le Moine offers a veritable top-to-bottom study of the Côte d'Or. The "Embazées" premier cru vineyard lies just inside the boundary between Santenay and Chassagne, and Mounir's version of this vineyard is always combines a beautiful combination of depth and racy energy. What it sacrifices in crunchy minerality, it more than makes up for in its elegant complexity.
